Baaaad week

December 6th, 2009

So this week didn’t start out so bad. I was sick, but it was bearable and Trent stayed home on Tuesday to help me out. But as the week went on, I got steadily worse and Trent had to work 10 hour days on Thursday on Friday. I had completely lost my voice by Thursday which wouldn’t be a big deal except that sometimes the only way to calm Cardon down is to sing or talk to him. So I was home sick for three days with an ornery baby who could not be consoled because I could not talk to him. By Saturday he was sick too. cardonsick Here’s a picture of our poor sick boy. He’s eating the tylenol bottle (which is almost empty because of the extremely fun night we had last night.)

Now, this did suck, but it wouldn’t have been all that bad if on Saturday night when I went to pick up Trent I hadn’t gotten into a car accident. It snowed on Saturday morning so by Saturday night the back roads were completely ice. Like, I couldn’t even walk on them. As I was going up a back road hill my car only made it halfway and started sliding backwards. I was doing okay and turning around alright. I was almost completely turned around when another car came down the hill and fishtailed into the back end of our car.

I created a lovely little diagram to illustrate the crash, but it’s having issues. Grr.

Other than our little fender bender and our illnesses however, we’re doing really well. My family came down from Seattle for Thanksgiving and we had a great time spending time with them. My sisters and I went and saw New Moon in the middle of the day. Cardon fell asleep.

scratcheyesout This is currently Cardon’s favorite past-time.

And here are some vanity shots of our cute (and sick) boy. He’s a lot easier to photograph when he’s not feeling well because he holds still.

Laughing

November 24th, 2009

We discovered that Cardon loves to be startled. Here is a video of Cardon laughing his head off.

Cute all around

November 10th, 2009

cutecardoncardonhairHere are a couple of pictures of our cute boy since it’s been awhile since I’ve put up pictures. He’s doing really well and getting better and better at sitting up every day. I just can hardly believe he is six and a half months old now. I put him in the highchair while I was cooking dinner the other day and put some food for him to grab and he was totally feeding himself! Weird!

We’ve been up to a couple of things other than being obsessed with Cardon, the biggest of which was Trents birthday last week. This is the cake I made him:
trentbirthdaycake

Trent impressively blew all of the candles out in one go, which I tried to get a picture of but it turned out really blurry. Just imagine those candles lit and then imagine Trent taking a little run into the grand blow out.

Ummm that’s all I really have to say right now. A couple of people I talked to didn’t realize post before this was actually a link to a video, so if you were in that group, please go and take a watch. Cardon is adorable.

So Trent and I decided that we were going to win the McDonalds Monopoly.

Yes we’re serious. Yes we’re embarrassed. No, we didn’t win anything.

Six months and s(p)itting up

So Cardon is finally sort of sitting up. He wasn’t really doing it by himself so in the last day or so we’ve been working with him and the improvement is really dramatic. One of the things we do to motivate him to sit up is give him things so that he has to balance while he’s using his hands. Last night we gave him some orange sections and he just LOVED it. When I took them away he reached after me and started crying. It’s so cool to see developmental things like having an opinion surface. He’s also started to have what’s called ‘object permanence’ which means that when something falls and he can’t see it anymore he looks to see where it went because he recognizes that it still exists even when he can’t see it. He also is beginning to react differently to strangers. He’s not afraid of them, but he can definitely tell that they’re not his parents.

Cute baby, right?

Halloween and other things

halloween2009

So this isn’t the best picture of any of us, but here is our Halloween costume this year. We were going ot be pirates and Cardon was going to be our parrot, but after searching every DI in the area for pirate boots we were forced to spend obscene amounts of money or find another option. Trent came up with this brilliant plan about an hour before the ward Halloween party when we were really hurting for ideas. He’s so smart. Too bad the judges for the costume contest did not fully appreciate his genius when it came time to award the most original costume.

Cardon turns six months this coming week. I can’t believe our little baby is getting so big. He can almost sit up by himself now and is getting such a little personality. We love him so much. Except maybe in the mornings. We love him a little bit less at four in the morning.

5 1/2 months

orange
My pediatrician told me last time we were there that I should slowly introduce foods to Cardon to make sure he’s not allergic to anything. To a point I have done that, most of the solid foods he eats is rice cereal or vegetables, but every once in awhile he has a bad day and the only thing that will calm him down is a good orange slice. Here he is devouring one in this picture.

Speaking of foods, here is a video of Cardon trying his first tomato while I made some peach salsa for a salsa competition for Trent’s work. (We didn’t win, but we should have.)

Trent is now in charge of training an intern at work, which I think he’s enjoying. I’m still just training for the Salt Lake marathon in April. We’ve planned a cruise to the Bahamas the weekend after the marathon (if anyone else feels like going tell us and we’ll totally tell you he ship, etc. We’re getting a little apprehensive about how little there is going to be to do on the ship and it would be VERY fun to have someone else to talk to!)

Other than those things we’re just enjoying our little boy. Here’s a video of him on Trent’s shoulders last night.

Been awhile!

October 2nd, 2009

Wow, I haven’t blogged in over a month! (Isn’t that funny how that’s a verb now? ‘Blogged’.)

Life is going really good for us these days. Cardon and I took a little trip up to Washington for my best friend Elisabeth’s wedding. It was really lovely, and I was really glad I got to go. I’ll post pictures as soon as she does :)

Cardon is 5 months now. I can hardly believe it. He’s becoming this interactive little person. His favorite thing right now is grabbing things and putting them into his mouth. Here’s an example of him doing that with the strap on my camera:

Is he cute or what?! He’s also started rolling over from his back to his stomach. Here’s a video of him doing just that! And here’s a video of him just being adorable. Also, here’s a video of Cardon and his favorite toy.

So other than having the cutest baby in the world, we’ve been pretty busy. We just finished (tonight, actually) decorating our apartment, and it looks great! Here are some pictures of our bedroom:

P1040885P1040887 You can see I finally decided what to do behind Cardon’s crib. I haven’t taken any pictures of the rest of the apartment yet, but when it’s clean I’ll definitely share!

I recently bought a cake decorating kit because my sister Ellyn inspired me to cake decorate, so here’s a cake I made about a month ago that I’d like to dedicate to her: cake

And besides that, I’m currently training for a marathon with my aunt Julie! I’m having some knee problems, but other than that it’s going really well. We’re currently at about 10 miles a week, but our schedule is increasing slowly but surely. I don’t think I would have believed it when I was in grade school being forced to run the mile if someone had told me that in a couple of years I would be running multiple miles several times a week by my own free will.

Trent is going to work. The project he’s working on right now isn’t really moving forward because of funding for the company which has been really frustrating for him. They did, however, just hire a new intern for him to train, so that should be fun! Other than that he’s filling out secondary applications for med school. I’m so proud of him and thankful that he’s willing to go to work and support us even when it’s less than ideal. I’ve married a really good man.

Anyway, that’s what’s up with us in a nutshell!

Two things

August 25th, 2009

So, just two little updates really fast.

One, this is the sight I was greeted with when I walked into the living room this morning:

And two, this is the bug we found in our bathtub last week:
